How the Nelu carrier was created

In September 2025, we became parents. From her very first days, our daughter felt best close to us - carried, snuggled up, with her head right against our hearts.

At first, I carried her in a wrap. I loved that closeness and the ritual of wrapping itself, but pretty quickly it turned out that in our daily life I also needed something simpler. With a baby, everything can change in a matter of minutes, you often run out of hands, and tying a wrap multiple times a day simply stopped being convenient for me.

So I started looking for a carrier.

I knew roughly what I wanted. It had to be comfortable for the baby and for me, easy to put on, fitting a tiny body well, and at the same time minimalist and aesthetic. Something that would fit into our lives - on a walk, while traveling, on a quick trip out of the house, but also in the morning in the kitchen when I'm still in my sweatpants trying to make coffee with one hand.

I have always been very active. I worked a lot, traveled, and lived in constant motion. Motherhood naturally changed a lot of things, but it didn't stop me from being myself. So I wanted to find something that would let me keep my daughter close while naturally blending into our everyday life.

I browsed available models, comparing constructions, fabrics, adjustment methods, and looks. But I couldn't find a carrier that combined all the features I cared about.

And that's when the thought crossed my mind: if I can't find exactly what I'm looking for, maybe we should try to make it ourselves.

How Nelu began

My name is Maja, and together with my husband, Emil, we created Nelu first and foremost with our daughter in mind.

From the start, we wanted to create a carrier that we would want to reach for several times a day ourselves. One that is comfortable, simple to use, beautifully made, and aesthetic enough to simply become part of everyday life.

It all started with sketches and hundreds of little ideas.

We didn't want to choose between functionality and design. We cared about a construction that fits the baby well and supports proper body positioning, while remaining comfortable for the person wearing it. Simplicity was just as important to us - we wanted putting on the carrier to take just a moment and become completely intuitive after a few uses.

The vision of the product was only the beginning, though.

Then came the samples, tweaks, and dozens of small decisions that often go unnoticed at first glance in the finished product. We tested the adjustment system, panel width, webbing, buckles, seam placement, fabrics, and finishes. We tested version after version, refined them, and tested them again.

That was when Nelu truly began to take its final shape.

From design to production

One of the most important decisions was finding the right manufacturing partner. We didn't assume from the start that the carrier had to be made in a specific country. We talked with facilities in Poland, other European countries, and Asia, comparing their experience, technological capabilities, sample craftsmanship, and production costs.

A baby carrier may seem like a simple product at first glance. In reality, it is a multi-element structure where every single seam, reinforcement, and adjustment point matters immensely. We needed a partner with the right facilities and know-how, while also allowing us to create a product at a price accessible to more parents.

After months of conversations, testing samples, and careful analysis, we decided to partner with a specialized sewing facility in China. It was a conscious choice, driven primarily by the quality of craftsmanship, their years of experience, and the technological capabilities they offered us.

For us, the place of manufacture has never been the defining factor of quality. The final product is shaped by who you work with, the standards you set for the manufacturer, the materials you use, and how rigorously production is controlled.

Our starting point was a structural base proposed by the facility, which we refined step by step to meet our exact requirements. We worked on the adjustment system, panel, webbing selection, seam placement, and finishing details. Each new sample allowed us to test solutions and make necessary adjustments.

This is how, step by step, the Nelu carrier came to life - exactly as we wanted to use it ourselves.

How every Nelu carrier is made

The design itself is just one part of the whole journey. Each production batch begins long before the fabric touches the sewing machine needle.

We match colors using fabric swatches and Pantone color guides.

First, we choose the fabrics and colors. We match materials, webbing, buckles, and other components so that everything forms a cohesive whole - both functionally and visually.

Color at Nelu goes beyond choosing the fabric. We want every element to match seamlessly, which is why our buckles are custom-dyed for each specific colorway. We also carefully select the right webbing and all remaining finishes.

In parallel, additional elements are prepared. Some are made locally - our embroidered labels are produced by a Polish embroidery workshop. It might seem like a small detail, but it is precisely these little decisions that define the overall character of the product.

Every carrier is crafted to strict specifications, piece by piece.

Once all components are ready, the actual sewing begins. The carriers are made according to rigorous specifications, using components we have precisely selected.

The process doesn't end there, though.

After production is complete, each finished batch undergoes inspections and testing before going on sale. We repeat this entire cycle for every order, giving us complete control not only over how Nelu looks in the end, but also over what it is made from and the conditions in which it is created.

We pay immense attention to raw materials. We use fabrics certified with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which was an absolute priority for a product that comes into direct contact with a baby's skin.

The finished carrier has also been independently tested in a renowned SGS laboratory. We wanted to be completely sure that great design and comfort are backed by uncompromising quality, verified independently of our own production process.

All of this allowed us to bring together the values that mattered to us from day one: comfort, aesthetics, craftsmanship, and a price that makes a great carrier accessible to more than just a select few.

Nelu today

Today, Nelu is a carrier we use every day ourselves, but also the beginning of a brand born out of a very specific, personal need.

We wanted something that would look great on a Sunday walk, on a long journey, and at home at seven in the morning. Something you can put on quickly, almost intuitively. Something practical and beautiful, so you never feel like having a baby means giving up on your own style.

We were not looking to start a market revolution. We simply wanted to create a carrier, the kind we searched for in vain as new parents - refined, comfortable, simple and aesthetic.

And that is probably what describes Nelu best.

It grew out of our everyday life. Out of the need for closeness, hundreds of conversations, dozens of samples, color tweaks, design adjustments and decisions about the tiniest details. From the very first thought, through the careful selection of materials and partners, to the meticulous quality checks of the finished batch.

Because we believe a good product does not happen in a single moment.

It comes from many small, conscious decisions. That is exactly how Nelu was created.
